About Us
ChineseTime NYC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing children a full cultural and linguistic learning environment. It was initially started by several Chinese families affiliated with Columbia University in 2007 to teach their children Chinese, but has quickly grown and gained attention in the local community.
Though the majority of our students have Chinese heritage, we do also have some without heritage. Classes take place from September to June on most Saturdays at 533 West 121st Street in New York City. Children in the program are grouped by their age as well as their comprehension of the Chinese language. Each group is led by professionals who not only instruct the study in class but also keep students engaged outside of class. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to practice the Chinese language in speaking, reading, and writing activities.
The program also allows children to participate in various cultural activities, such as Chinese calligraphy, cooking, dancing, and our annual Lunar New Year celebration. Our goal is to provide a platform that allows children to be passionate about learning the diverse aspects of the Chinese language and culture.
